Honda Accord Sedan Safety
Honda's Safety for Everyone philosophy is more than a motto-it takes shape in the advanced safety features of our vehicles. Wondering what helped earn the Accord a 5-star frontal crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)?* Every Accord has standard front, front side and side curtain airbags as well as dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags Energy-absorbing crush zones and passenger safety cells help keep occupants protected. Just one more example of how Honda takes a comprehensive approach to vehicle safety.
3-Point Seat Belts with Pretensioners
Front 3-point seat belts with pretensioners ride across the lap and chest to help restrain occupants during sudden stops or impact.

Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)

The anti-lock braking system (ABS) uses a special modulator to pulse the brakes to help prevent wheel lockup. This helps the driver retain steering control during hard braking.

Dual-Stage, Dual-Threshold Front Airbags (SRS)
In the event of a frontal impact, the dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags (SRS) inflate at different rates depending upon crash severity and seat belt use and are designed to help prevent head and upper-body injuries.

Front Crush Zones
The front crush zones help provide driver and passenger protection in full-frontal and offset-frontal impacts.

Front Side Airbags with Passenger-Side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS)
In the event of a moderate-to-severe side impact, the side airbag inflates to help protect the driver's or front passenger's upper body. Plus the Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) utilizes sensors in the front passenger's seatback to detect the height and seating position of the occupant. If a child or small-statured adult is leaning into the deployment path of the side airbag, sensors deactivate it.

LATCH and Child-Seat Tether Anchors
All five seats are equipped with 3-point seat belts. The outboard rear seats feature the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) mounting system for use with compatible child seats.

Rigid Unit-Body Construction
The highly rigid unit body helped the Accord Sedan achieve its exceptional structural rigidity and enviable safety rating. Forty-eight percent of the frame assembly is made of high-tensile steel, helping it to better absorb impact forces from the front, sides and rear, as well as the roof, in the event of a rollover.

Side Curtain Airbags
The side curtain airbag module is positioned along the side of the headliner. In the event of a sufficient side impact, this system will activate to help provide protection for both front and rear outboard passengers. A new type of inflator provides an exceptionally quick inflation time.

Side-Impact Door Beams
The dual side-impact door beams help provide protection in a side impact.

Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with Brake Assist
The electronically controlled Brake Assist system on V-6 models is designed to help drivers apply full braking force in an accident-avoidance situation. This assists the driver in obtaining full braking performance in an emergency.

Wave Key and Immobilizer System
The system immobilizes the engine's fuel injection and ignition, and only a matching digital code in the ignition key can override it. When the driver puts the key into the ignition switch, the switch transmits a signal that reads the code in the key. If the key code agrees with the code in the Immobilizer unit, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) starts the engine.
